This is the process to use when someone is sharing or posting about serious mental health issues such as depression and self harm.

Important Notice

<aside> 🚨 Staff are not trained mental health professionals and should not be offering advice or therapy. All we can do is remove the content and DM the player with our Mental Health template, which includes a link to a list of resources.

You are not responsible for any actions a player may take during or after your interaction with them as Staff.

Procedure

Step 1 - Screenshot the content

Take a screenshot of the post, comment or thread. Sometimes carlbot doesn’t log edited or deleted posts, so it is always good to take a screenshot so staff can see exactly what was said.

Step 2 - Delete the content

Delete the post, comment or thread. Continue monitoring the chat in case the player continues posting.

Step 3 - DM the Player

DM the following template to the person who posted the content:

Hi @<player>,

We wanted to reach out to you as staff on Dominion regarding a recent post you made related to mental health which has now been removed.

To start with we truly do understand that you may be going through some struggles right now and do care about both you and all the members of our community.

That being said, we do not allow explicit content related to mental health for the sake of the community as a whole. These kind of posts can be triggering to some and we aim to keep Dominion as a safe space for everybody including those who may be triggered by posts regarding mental health.

I have attached some resources for places or services that provide mental health resources and support, that you can reach out for help if you need to, covering a number of countries around the world.

In addition, whilst we are happy to provide these resources staff are not able to act as direct mental health support and are instructed not to do so as they are not trained professionals and doing so would be unfair to both the staff member providing support and the person receiving it.

If you have any questions or clarifications regarding this, please let me know.

We wish you the best with your health.

Step 4 - Post to Staff # 👮🏻‍♂️ 💬general

Post to staff [#👮🏻‍♂️ 💬general](<https://discord.com/channels/557986764548079617/558463982277492756>) channel with the screenshot and other information about what happened so that staff are aware and can help monitor the chat.

<aside> 🚨 Please put the screenshot behind a behind a spoiler.

</aside>

Sometimes this kind of content can be disturbing or triggering, so putting the screenshot and any possibly triggering text behind a spoiler means that staff will only see the content should they choose to view it.

Step 5 - Should the Player Respond

If the person responds to your DM, remember that you are not a mental health professional and so you should not engage with them when it comes to their mental health. You should instead refer them to an admin.
